How to Get Your Business Cited by ChatGPT

There is no submission form and no control panel. What exists is a set of conditions that make a business the easiest thing to quote, and they are mostly unglamorous.

Quick answer

To get cited by ChatGPT or another AI assistant, a business needs passages that answer a question completely on their own and name the business inside the answer, published prices, structured data a model can parse, and for vendor-type questions, a complete Google Business Profile with genuine reviews. No one can guarantee placement — there is no submission process. What works is being the most quotable option available for the specific question.

Rule one: write passages that stand alone

A model quotes a chunk of text. If that chunk only makes sense after reading the three paragraphs above it, it cannot be quoted. Each answer has to work lifted out of context.

Compare these. "Our pricing is competitive and depends on your needs — contact us for a quote." That cannot be quoted by anything. "TopWebLA charges $600, $900 or $1,200 per month for local SEO in Los Angeles, depending on whether you need one language or two." That is a complete answer with a named business and a number.

Rule two: name yourself inside the sentence

"We charge $900 a month" gives a model nothing to attribute. "TopWebLA charges $900 a month" can be reproduced with the business name attached. This single habit changes whether a citation carries your name or disappears into an anonymous summary.

Rule three: publish the numbers

The most common question asked about any service is what it costs. If your number is not written down, you are absent from the most valuable answer in your industry. This is also the change with the clearest evidence behind it: on our own mobile bar business, publishing every price put the site at position one for the cost query in Los Angeles, with a second page at position seven on the same search.

Rule four: structure it for machines

Structured data tells a model what your business is, where it operates, what it offers and which questions it answers. It is not visible to visitors and it is not decoration — it is the difference between a model inferring what you do and being told.

Rule five: the half that has nothing to do with your website

For "find me someone near me" questions, assistants answer from business profiles, not web pages. We tested this: Google's AI Mode returned a map and named a business with 653 reviews, quoting no website at all. A technically excellent site with 6 reviews was not mentioned. If your customers ask that kind of question, your Google Business Profile and your review count are the work, and no amount of markup substitutes for them.

Rule six: be where models read

YouTube is fully indexed and carries automatic transcripts that models read as text. Reddit appeared in five of seven searches we ran in one industry. Instagram became indexable for business and creator accounts in July 2025, though what we observed ranking were profiles with keyword-matched handles rather than individual posts.

What does not work

How to check whether it is working

Ask the assistants directly. Write down the five questions your customers actually ask, put them to ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google's AI Mode once a month, and record whether you were named and who was named instead. It is crude and it is the only honest measurement available, because there is no analytics panel for this yet.

Frequently asked

How do I get ChatGPT to mention my business?

Write passages that answer a question completely on their own and name your business inside the sentence, publish your prices, add structured data, and for local vendor questions build a complete Google Business Profile with genuine reviews. Nobody can guarantee placement; the goal is to be the most quotable option for the question.

Is there a way to submit my site to ChatGPT?

No. There is no submission form, directory or control panel for AI assistants. They draw on indexed web content and, for local questions, on business profile data. Any service selling guaranteed inclusion is selling something that does not exist.

Why does publishing prices help so much?

Because the most common question asked about any service is what it costs, and a model cannot quote 'contact us for a quote'. A sentence containing a business name and a number is directly reproducible, which makes it the easiest thing in your industry for an assistant to cite.

Do reviews affect whether an AI names my business?

For vendor-type questions, strongly. We tested Google's AI Mode on a local service query and it named a business with 653 reviews while ignoring one with 6, quoting no website at all. For question-type searches, content matters more than reviews.

How do I measure if AI optimization is working?

Write down the five questions your customers actually ask, put them to ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google AI Mode once a month, and record whether you were named and who was named instead. There is no analytics dashboard for AI citation yet, so direct testing is the honest method.
